Most of my readers know I am a re-enactor. I'm reasonably new to the re-enactment life, but there are some very good reasons why I want to keep doing it........Waking up in a reproduction 14C canvas tent, with the light coming through the fabric. Looking up and seeing weaponry and clothing on the 'cartwheel' above our heads.Watching the sun rise through the ruins of a castle many hundreds of years old that is our home for a couple of days. The start of a simpler day in the life......Yeah - that's why I do it........

Totally understandable. I wouldn't DO it ... but I DO understand it! :) It's great that you get so much pleasure from it!
Never forget your sunhat ... It's good for keeping the rain off.
Michele sent me this time :-)
these photos are lovely, especially that first one!
It sounds great when you talk about it, CQ, but I am not much of a tent person. I prefer a hotel with all the modern conveniences! Michele probably agrees.....LOL
Wow! How exciting ..... maybe that's why you couldn't sleep ... must be a very exciting life you lead!
What are you reenacting? And what are you doing up so late or so early?
I notice you're having trouble sleeping (3:45 your time by my watch) so I thought I'd drop in and wish you good sleep, soon.
I've been there too often of late. My trick: I turn on the news channel...the monotonous news anchor's voice usually does me in within 15 minutes. Our TV has a timer, so I don't have to worry about it staying on all night.
Do they allow you a cosy-wosy modern sleeping bag?
owww... I would pick a hotel.. but I do understand why you like it so much. I guess it can be real fun to do!
ps: Michele sent me
Wow... very cool (for you! If you pop over to my place you'll see my idea of a vacation). But hats off to you and thanks for the pics!
The sword I cna live with, the camping in a tent without a sewn in ground sheet, not so much. I hate creepy crawlies!
Glad you found something you like doing so much though.
Hey here via Michele,
That's just ace and the pictures really tell the story.
Imagination is a wonderful thing
I want that kind of life! Honest..
:D
Michele sent me over to check your tent!
Lovely pics cq. It makes me miss my home country :(
While the re enacting is not something I'd want to do personally, I can see how you'd get a lot of pleasure and satisfaction from it.
Good for you!
I was here yesterday, and the other post was still up....! And look what happened while I was twiddling my thumbs....RE-ANACTMENT! HOORAY! Like Kenju, I am not a tent person, but I can appreciate why you do this and when I read about it, I wish I were a tent person...lol!
It sounds really great fun.
I love just getting away from the pressures of modern life for the weekend. I ge to keep the good bits (gas heater, cosy sleeping bag, air mattress and washing) while opting out of all the stuff that never seems to leave me alone at ome (phone, news, housework, laundry....)
oh, and learning new things is always fun.
And having time just to sit, and chat, and spend time with people, rather than doing "things" all the time.
And it's nice to know more about something than other people - or is that just the latent teacher in me?
I bet the fresh air helps too ... One thing I miss about rarely playing cricket nowadays is that fresh air.
Mobile off, away from pooter, away from phone, chilling out by the fire - sounds good :-)
Michele sent me - this time ;-)
there is something lovely about living in tents
Quite a sturdy looking tent, with all of the wooden poles. I assume the canvas keeps water out? I'm more used to double skinned tents.
Quite essential to be waterproof in our climate! nb I think I've been somewhat in your 'neck of woods' over last couple of days!
Michele returned me back here. The can't be many reproduction 14th C canvas tents around!
Nearly time...only 26 days to go
