Allow Me to Introduce....

To you............
um....
so far.....
a bear without a name.....

I don't even know if it is a boy or a girl.....

Cute, isn't it?
And it exists for a reason, the clue is stitched on the bottom of the adorable foot.
This is a breast cancer bear, 10% of the purchase price went to www.breastcancercampaign.org.

So, it's over to all you wonderful people, what is the bear's name? There is a prize for the one chosen.
There are some considerations - no Fluffies, Cuties or Pinkies. No cutesy names, I want my bear to have a meaningful name.

My only request is, when you leave a comment, leave a naming suggestion. Ask your children, ask your friends, ask your readers. I want to have as many choices as possible.

I recently committed myself to do the Race for Life every year, for all the Minervas, cousins, and dads in the world, to raise money to ensure the research into cures for cancer continues. This bear will accompany me every year until we are both little old charity-raisers and it will be the avatar on my fundraising pages.

A huge thank you to Bobkat for the gorgeous portrait shots of the Bear With No Name :-)

So far it's still a toss-up whether it's a girl or a boy.....and I have lots of lovely suggestions, but I need more!!

cq
This will remain at the top of my blog for two weeks. Please read down for new stuff.

Well, right off the top of my head I would name her Cousin Minerva (from Dad's side of the family)... But I will surely give this more serious consideration and ask a few creative people I know!

Passionata! Because you have a passion for helping people. Michele says hello.

Bear with a cause..I like that.

I will think of names for your bear. Michele sent me back again to your blog to look it over.

How about "Bearable" most cancer survivors say that with the support from friends and family it makes life more Bearable.

Uisce said...

Dang, "Pinky" was my first thought. Hmm, how about Albert? He looks smart like Mr. Einstein and thoughtful like Mr. Gore.

OldLady Of The Hills said...

the first thing that came to me was "Princess Min". Craziequeen and "The Princess Min".

That's my best shot, for now. I'll keep working on this...

Pat said...

I was going to say Wisty because he has a wistful look but you may think that too cutesy. So how about Billie Burke for beat breast cancer. Billie for short which could be either sex.
Hi from Michele.

I'd thought I'd stop in on your site - seeings you'd stopped in to give me greeings from Michele

Aphrodite is my suggestions - as goddess of love, sensuality, beauty, power and healing. A very feminine name.

panther girl got it right.

but I would add that this bear is full of surprises, and can never be thrown away. Name it Percy, short for "perseverance".
or name it after me "Crazy, old and inflamed"
COI????

Bless your efforts at awareness and fund raising.

here via michele's to help name the adorable bear.. my vote is Joanie or Joanie Love (to tie in others' suggestions) in honor of my mom who died of breast cancer back in 1997. :0)

Okay, so now I've woken up, I'm back armed with two names lol. The first one I thought of is Raphael. The Archangel Raphael is the Angel who helps to heal physical challenges in our lives and those we care about. I thought that was kind of appropriate and meaningful.

The second one I thought of is Shanti. Shanti is the Angel of Peace, bring us tranquility and a smoother road ahead, appropriate for those who survive Cancer.

I don't envy you having to choose lol. There have been a LOT of great suggestions so far!

rashbre said...

Hope.

rashbre said...

Amazingly, I see that Panthergirl also came up with this name before me! I promise it was independently thought of ! I'll do another. But it must be a sign.

:)

Bobkat said...

I have a couple of sugestions for you:

Eir - Goddess of healing with herbs if it is a girl bear or
Elpis - God of hope if it is a boy bear.

Thanks for the credit. He/she sat quite nicely for their picture to be taken :)

I think that Bear's name is Orwell. I don't know why, especially when I first saw him, I thought he was a girl, but then he just looked like an Orwell to me. :)

What an adorable bear and what a wonderful cause it represents. Here are my suggestions for her name (yes, I think the bear is a girl!):

Esperanza (hope in Spanish)
Raza (race in Spanish)
Huggers (we all need hugs)

Unknown said...

Craziequeen - I think you should give it a new name every year.

I would name the bear Emily Arlene, that's my mother's name. She is a breast cancer survivor and is currently suffering from metastasized breast cancer.

I think Minerva is a good name for similar reasons, and also more personal to you because of your friendship with her.

Good luck with all the wonderful choices people have submitted. There are many wonderful suggestions.

Terry said...

Dear CQ...I am torn between Melli's suggestion and the old lady of the hill...Is there some way that you can combine the two?...Love Terry

I think it should be named Tenacious B (for Bear).

Or there's always Hooters!

Shannon akaMonty said...

I suppose "Harry" (Hairy) is too obvious. :)

Ooh, I like Tenacious B (T.B.)(TeddyBear!)...see how multi-functional it is? :)

My vote goes to everyone who suggested Hope. It resonates in my mind.

Others that touch my soul:
Future
Bashert (the Yiddish word that loosely translates to "fate" or "destiny")
Destiny
Victory
Empathy
Miracle
Future
Life

Sorry, couldn't help riffing a bit. Bad habit of mine. Bless you for doing this. I've upped my prayers for your dad. He has you, which already gives him a massive leg up on this unwelcome visitor to his and your life.

And a big high-five to Bob-kat. Her photographic gift knows no bounds.

For the record, I said "Hope" aloud then saw that Panthergirl already suggested it. I second that! Have a nice weekend!!!:)

OldLady Of The Hills said...

Hi My Dear....Michele sent me to you this mornunf. Ir is about
2:25AM here, and I'm off to bed shortly....
I still like PRINCESS MIN...

I keep meaning to ask you, have you watched any of WEST WING yet??

Jean-Luc Picard said...

A pink bear can't be maile, that's for sure.

Is 'Pinkie' too obvious?

That said, some of the above suggestions have been good as well.

Anonymous said...

Name him Heisenberg!

Sounds so important! The way he is..

Michele sent me again!

kenju said...

Michele sent me back to see what all the others had named HER! The bear is obviously a girl, people.
I think Hope is a great name ; certainly better than my first pick.

Anonymous said...

I am sitting with a friend every two weeks whilst she has her chemo. I asked her opinion and she suggested mac. in rememberance of the great macmillan nurses who are a rock to her and her young family

Pat said...

Have you two teddy bear blogs? I am mystified. A moment ago yesterday's comment had vanished and now it is here. Think I'll go and lie down

WendyWings said...

Hope is my choice too, although I see when I opened up the comments it is none too original.
Michele sent me today but I was going to come anyway it is catch up blog day !!

Walker said...

I have to say "Hope" was my first thought and "Tonorrow" was second because I always thought it would be nice to hug tomorrow.

Smiler said...

Firstly, I love you new layou! Much more reader friendly, congrats! As for the bear, it's a she to me and I immediately thought of Charlotte. I happen to like that name and it works in English AND French. She's adorable by the way. Michele sent me to tell you so.

Not Pink Floyd. How about Petal. She has a puzzle piece on her ear?

Michele and I both say hi.

Dawn-Enigma Artist said...

Aurora,

which means Dawn, a new beginning

Ladybug Crossing said...

How about Joy?

She's so cute and she will bring joy to anyone who sees her, hugs her, or loves her.

At the risk of sounding dumb here, I think "Ta-ta" would be a good one. Laugh at me if you wish, but the most memorable advertisement for breast cancer awareness that I saw claimed "Save the ta-ta's!" It was slightly humorous, but it got the point across, which is the most important thing. People need to be aware of breast cancer and to do what they can to help prevent and treat it for everyone.

P.S. Michele sent me to ponder this question today.

Shannon akaMonty said...

Ooh, good one square1! CQ, I love all the fab suggestions you're getting!!

Came via Michele's just now, even though you said to skip. I'm such a rebel. :) xoxo

Omykiss said...

Hello, Michele sent me. I'm glad I came ... I'll be back. A bear without a name .... how about Jim?

Moon said...

I would call it (My Breast Friend)

MaR said...

Lovely bear and fantastic suggestions, this will be tough for you, cq!!
"Life", which is already on your list.

MaR said...

how about "Victoria"?

OldLady Of The Hills said...

Hey There! You didn't put mine up, my dear....
The Glorious, Gorgeous Perfect...PRINCESS MIN!

And I responded early on, too!

Didn't like that one, huh?

Well, my dear, that's all I've got for you.

Have a GRAND Monday, I'm off to bed, shortly.

OldLady Of The Hills said...

Help Me Oh, Nurse! LOL! I think I must be losing it....I never ever saw that there....My only excuse is I have had a friend here for the weekend and we have been working like beavers on ywo projects in my house...I am overtired I guess---to the point where I can hardly sleep....!
I should have known better...
Yesterday, we got to a certain point and I had to stop cause I was making all sorts of mistakes...
STRESS can stress you out! (LOL)!!!

Was asleep for about an hour and a half....He left at 4:30 AM to get a flight back up to Northern California. Sweetie is freaked out from having "a visitor" and I'm ready for a SPA with heavy sedation!

ribbiticus said...

first off, i definitely think this cute n' cuddly bear is a girl (no he-bear can "bear" to be pink). lol!

everyone gave so many good choices already! i don't think my suggestion will pass muster. here's my two cents: how 'bout victoria? it is regal, befitting anyone who resides in the craziequeen's palace & aside from that, can mean "victory over breast cancer". ;)

Anonymous said...

I think you should name her WOMP, which is a tribute to Minerva...."Woman Of Many Parts" abbreviated......and seemingly appropriate for any woman...battling breast cancer....WOMP, rhymes with stomp...say it enough times and it begins to grow on ya...I mean how many bears do you know named WOMP?? She could become famous !!!

Donna

Panthergirl said...

I see my "Hope" idea is pretty popular, but now I'm leaning in the Minerva direction...

When are you going to make your decision?

Here via michele today...

Tawcan said...

I really like the name Hope. That sounds like a very good suggestion.

Here via Michele today.

Anonymous said...

Looks like Hope is loved by all but I'm still going to play anyway....

"I think pink. Hear me roar"

Michele sent me :o)

Anonymous said...

I hope all goes well with your family. Cancer is a scary thing.

PS - Michele sent me.

Joe said...

Just stopping by via Michele. Well, I once had a bunny named Bad Ass Bunny, so I'll suggest Bad Ass Bear--though I'm guessing you're not going to use that one...

Shari said...

Lots of good suggestions here. Hope. Empathy (Emma, Em, Emmy), Miracle, Victoria/Victor...

How about Isis, goddess of vision, insight, magic, and life?

Or a boy...

Ares god of war. A fighter.

Catherine said...

I think your bear looks French, and needs a French name. Clotilde or Camille or something like that. Although some of the suggestions above sound far more meaningful, I will admit.
Michele sent me

Jean-Luc Picard said...

I had already been by myself, but Michele sends me now. I shall look forward in knowing the name that is decided.

rashbre said...

Nope. I've thought and I've thought and I still keep coming back to Hope. :-)

Michelle sent me over to say hi!

I would say Mammy to remind women to get their mammograms done. I work in a diagnostic center and you wouldn't believe how many women come in with lumps who have never had mammograms before. They skip them because of fear.

BreadBox said...

I like "Leo" to remind us that there is something after Cancer....

But I like a lot of the suggestions earlier better.

I think she should be called WINNIE for winning this race.

Have a wonderful weekend. Michele sent me today and I'm glad she did. It's been WAY too long!

Anonymous said...

There are some great suggestions in there.

You can take a few into account and draw them!

Michele sent me back yet again!

Smiler said...

How's Bernadette? You can nickname her Bernie. But after this, I would suggest pick among the ones you like otherwise you'll have a heck of a time picking just one! Michele sent me today.

Kristal said...

I asked my four year old what the bear's name was. "Pinky Bye, but I call him Bonkers."

There you go!

Here via Michele

Tabby Rabbit said...

Hey stranger ; -) well, I was going to go for 'Hope' as well. I'll add my nomination to the existing suggestion.

Will come back if I have any brain waves, but not very likely....

Victorya...We can be victoriaous over cancer....
