2. It's the brainchild of one of our many local councils to encourage people to use 'sustainable', or green, transport during June, dangling the lure of lots of prizes! 3. I am a JamBuster, as I am using the bus. 4. I am also intending to use the bus when my car is fixed (I hasten to add!) 5. Ah, the British Bus.....no colourful red doubledeckers here, my bus service uses the oldest crappiest buses on the road. 6. In fact, the entire fleet was taken off the road a couple of years ago when loads failed roadside safety checks :-O 7. It's expensive - I did some simple math........£3.50 return a day, that's £17.50 a week, X 4.5 (weeks in a month) comes to £78.75 a month. I can fill my car twice over for that, and a month of commuting only takes half a tank. So the bus costs about 4X as much as my car! 8. I bought a ten-journey ticket. Did I get a saving for that? Nope! 9. Today I decided to try and use the hour+ journey to do some study.....I read until I was ready to puke.......won't do that again! 10. My current evening driver is not the regular driver, and he is excruciatingly slow.....I'm tempted to ask if he wants us to push! 11. Jambusters has really taken off at work with over 150 people signing up for sustainable transport - lots of them walking or cycling for the first time. Sounds good until you remember we have 7,000 people on our site! 12. I'm sticking with it, but am refusing pointblank to go to Birmingham next week on public transport! 13. The thing I hate most.......? Standing at a bus stop watching people sail past in their lovely comfy cars........[bitter smile] cq |

I'm First!! Woo Hoo!!
I hate public transportation....not fun! Good luck to you dear Queenie....I thought you'd have private service though! ;)
That is utterly shocking that the bus costs you 4 times what gas would cost.....Lordy! I know they are trying to get cars off the road, but...how about a little more incentive? Prizes, you said? Like what sort of prizes are they offering?
Doesn't sound like it's too much fun on those old buses....You are True Blue, my Queen!
I used to have to use the bus, and it's time consuming and expensive here in the States, too.
That's so cool that you're all doing that, though. I wish there was something like that here!
My T13 is up!
I live in Los Angeles, where you can't make people ride the bus with threats of injury to life & limb... I'm afraid prizes wouldn't cut it! But it's a lovely idea, I wish they'd TRY, at least...
The irony is that an all-day pass costs $3, which is less than a gallon of gas!
Thanks for helping to save the planet (or at least destroy it more slowly!)
Thank you for saving the planet. Are all Royals as eco-friendly as you. Love ya babe!
Gotta love that public tranportation. We don't have that here though, you either have a car or you walk. I grew up in Birmingham, Birmingham, AL that is :) Blogging is such a neat thing that connects people on different continents! Thanks for stopping by today!
I tell ya, if I didn't have to drag 3 kids with me everywhere; I'd start taking the bus. Gas is just way too expensive these days & so we typically stay home.
Ugh. Ever since A crazy woman threatened my life, after declaring herself the Queen of the Nile, I have avoided public transportation!!!!
BTW-- I accidently left my link for Thursday 13--- I didn't look carefully enough and thought it was your posting area. Sorry!
I live outside Barcelona and never drive to go downtown, I take the train, which is a lot more convenient (time-wise and money-wise: 10 trips for 6.65 euros=4.60 pounds! converted it here. A ticket is for combined public transportation (including train, subway, bus) in one direction for 1 1/2 hours!! yes, for Barcelona! you'll have to try it yourself :)
I don't have a car (neither does Hubby). I can drive andgot my licence 20 years ago. WE could never aford to purchase and then tax and insure a car. It is getting more and more of a priority though.
I use the bus ALL the time. (with the odd taxi). Our bus company provide a weekly ticket that you can buy and have unlimited travel in that zone. For £7 I an travel unlimited within the inner vity zone - just taking the HGS to school and home, it pays for itself in three days. For work though I now buy a £13 ticket (per week),I can travel anywhere in the city and even to my daughter's school £15 miles away. It also does not have a pictur or ID on it so that Hubby or my daughter can use it too if they need to go somewhere and I am not using it. For my work and the 6x weekly swimming trips, it has usually paid for itself after 4 days.
When I was studying to become a tracher and my daughter was in full time school and my son in morning nursery and I was at the local college I could, and did get up to 8 buses a ay on regular basis.
Oooo I am writing a post here ... I may continue on my blog soon.... sorry *blushing*.
Have a good day
CQ-
I think you are terrific to take the bus! I couldn't do it. I need my wheels. How American is that?? I used to ride my bike to work, but I ended up with knee problems...
Now I live too far out - there is no public transportation and it's over 5 miles to the grocery store. I think I'll keep driving my energy efficient Honda.
LBC
I really like the dragon header...very cool!
Btw, I can't believe riding the bus costs four times as much as taking a car!!! That's insane!
You're right...your experiences don't sound as fun as mine. But hey, Ms. JamBuster--you're saving the Earth here. :)
Good for you. But man that is major league expensive for riding a bus. And I thought a buss pass saved you moned.
C
I've never heard of a jambuster until today. I'm all about going green, but that's expensive!
finally making my rounds... better late than never... what is hour+ journey? is that just getting on the bus and riding around for an hour?
