It Must Be August

It's been a lovely summer........honest - it has.........
June - torrential rain and massive flooding in the north of England.
July - torrential rain and massive flooding in the south west of England.
Aug - finally, the sun is out.....and the UK has Foot and Mouth again......
Please, PLEASE will someone authorise the use of the F&M vaccine!! Anything to stop the disease, the slaughtering of whole herds of beast and the impact on our farming communities.
There is nothing as soul destroying as watching hundreds of sheep and cows burning on huge pyres - and farmers watching stoically as their families weep while their living goes up in smoke.....again......

That has to be heartbreaking on sooo very many levels...That is really terrible...! What is the objection to the Vaccine? I don't understand why the government wouldn't pass that in a heartbeat...? (But then, this is coming from a country--Here, I mean---where ALL our "rights" are being eroded on a daily basis....and our Congress goes along with it!)

Do you think the reasons are political in some way, that they don't legalize the vaccine as mandatory? I cannot imagine being the farmer's that must be subject to these horrific losses....!
I am so very sorry to hear this, CQ.

And poor old Gorden Brown had to cut short his holiday after only 1/2 day:-) Do you think someone is trying to tell him something. Day 1 in the job - terrorist attacks in Galsgow & a crises in the NHS. Followed by non-stop flooding for two months. Topped off ith F&M.....

As I understand it, the vaccine makes the animals unusable - they can not be used for milk, meat or any other use, so it is just an expensive way of delaying their slaughter, and mass vaccination just means mass slaughtering, whereas without the vaccination only infected farms have their livestock slaughtered.

As I understand it, the ov't has to compensate farmers whose animals are slaughtered, so the less the better.

How horrible...like lady of the hills said, I don't understand why they don't approve it? My heart goes out to all the farmers there and in northamerica who have been affected by this...We have also had an eye on the news hearing about all the floods out there...its so devastating! My thoughts are with those touched by it all.

rough times over there, makes my trials looklike triviality.
farmers, ranchers always seem to be dodging one bad thing or another.
I am glad I am a carpenter.

even though my other half is from Keighley, in Yorkshire, I have only jumped the pond, once for a visit.

I understand that farming is a hard life, but I can only imagine what they are going through. The slaughtering of an entire herd must be devastating.
