the day after Thanksgiving is "the biggest shopping day of the year" and also the day when shops go from being in debt (the red) to being profitable (the black)... hence... black friday.
wouldn't it drive you NUTS running a business that was in the red for 11 months? Or maybe they're talking about the fiscal year, which starts at the beginning of the 3rd quarter? I have no idea. But that's what they say...
I think it takes on a more sinister meaning now that thre are fights, and violence associated with the start of the Holiday madness these idiots call shopping. I truly love to get, and love to make, Hand-made gifts. If its by an artist-craftsman then good that we keep them alive, if it by the giver, even better! I have a piece of my loved ones heart and not just his or her wallet.
ah - ok.......I think.....I thought it might be something like that... thanks Mar-see-ah [bg] and David.
wow - fancy letting your annual profits ride on one day!
Our fiscal year runs from April to April.... And our shops are in trouble anyway because everyone is starting to spend less. They're already panicking over Christmas projections.
I like buying books for presents - you can't beat a good book, especially for children. I already have my eye on a couple for my god-daughter and Aginoth Jnr.
David has the meaning of Black Friday correct. It's all about profits. It's absolute madness. I do my Christmas shopping online and avoid stores like the plaque!
Hi CQ...Well, I really just learned what Black Friday is myself, since blogging, and so I Guess that makes me deeply uninformed as an American...(lol) It's, SHOP TILL YOU DROP---Bargains galore! So they tell me...But would you get up at 3am or something like that and then get in line at the Store, at 4am so YOU could get into the store at 5am??? Frankly, they would have to giving away a cool Million $$ to get me to do that! (lol) How are you feeling today???
Hi CQ.. LOVE THAT about Cambridge Blue....there are so many wondeful traditions connected to so very much in the UK....you see what one of our trasditions is...? Black Friday! HELP! (lol)
Though I love to shop I avoid Black Friday like the plague! Especially when I saw on a news clip this year a poor soul who was trampled and when they showed her she was trying to regain her dignity by putting her wig back on! Poor thing! Such craziness!

Well I'm Tickled Pink :o)
Don't have black friday (although I knew what it was from some seriously worrying news reports about riots in Wal-Mart!)
Definitely no Cambridge Blue here
I'm rarely tickled pink
But I certainly know about blue Mondays:-)
Though I love to shop I avoid Black Friday like the plague! Especially when I saw on a news clip this year a poor soul who was trampled and when they showed her she was trying to regain her dignity by putting her wig back on! Poor thing! Such craziness!
